Harvey Milk DVD

The Harvey Milk DVD is one that chronicles the gay rights activist of the same name. This man became the first openly gay man elected to public office in the United States in the mid-1970s. The Milk DVD is one that can teach people of all ages and backgrounds not only what it was like to be gay in the 1970s but also what this man's life was like.

The film itself opens with archival footage of gay raids and then flashbacks to different moments in Milk's life: from leaving the closet and heading to New York to his move to San Francisco, various relationships, and both failed and successful elections.

The film focuses as much on Milk's life as it does the politics of the time period. Sean Penn played Milk and earned a great number of awards for his performance, including an Academy Award. With the film now out on DVD, it can now be used as a great tool of education for people of all generations.
